Bath Tumbling Competition
University of Bath: 25th March 2018
Today saw 9 of our Gryphon West gymnasts take to centre stage at the University of Bath to compete in the SW Regional Team Selection competition. This is selection to represent the SW at the National Finals which would be held in Telford, later on in the year.
Up first was our young lady Lily Sherry in the Womens 11-12 National Level 1, where Lily performed her best and secured a very sound 1st place with a score of 79.60 (2 points ahead of the rest of the field).
Next up were the Mens duo of Zac Spike and Kyle Woolmington, in the Mens 11-12 category, National Level 1. Both boys completing 3 very impressive runs; for Kyle it was his first time competing at Bath University, but coped exceedingly well and Zac better watch out as Kyle is not far behind you! We were very proud of both, with Kyle coming 6th and Zac coming 2nd with a score of 79.40 being only 0.3 points off 1st place…..ooh so close!
A new young lady to the scene of tumbling is Charlotte Nolan, who in September 2017 had only just started tumbling with the club. Again the first time Charlotte had competed at Bath University. Three clean runs completed with a beaming smile, achieving a very respectful 5th place.
The next two ladies were also competing at Bath University for the very first time, Katie Gardiner and Kaela Roper, in the National Level 1 category age 13 and over. The ladies completed their runs and again did themselves and the club proud, with 5th and 7th respectively.
The afternoon saw 3 gymnasts: 13 and over age category, Sam Cook in National Level 4, and Hazel Luscombe in National Level 2, with Ben Cowell also competing at National Level 4 11-12 age category. All three have experienced competing at Bath before, with the pressure still on they proudly did their runs, which were clean and neat – always room for improvement of course!
Sam achieved 2nd place, Ben achieving 1 st place and Hazel a very respectable 7th position.
So in summary, Ben and Lily GOLD, Zac and Sam SILVER, Charlotte and Katie both 5th, Kyle 6th, Kaela and Hazel both 7th – well done to you all and for the four in GOLD and SILVER, good luck on the next competition – the National Finals at Telford – go Gryphon West!!!
