SW Tumbling Club Challenge 2025

Competitions

The final competition of the tumbling season saw seventeen of the club’s gymnasts compete in the SW Club Challenge 2025. Hosted by ourselves, we worked with the South West Tumbling committee to arrange a competition that invited over 180 gymnasts from 11 clubs across the region to the Gryphon Leisure Centre.

The first round was full of some of our youngest gymnasts, with most of them competing tumbling for the very first time. Each gymnast performed remarkably with beaming smiles through the whole competition. Floella and Darcy C each picked up bronze medals in groups of 10 and 15. All of the gymnasts in Richard’s tumbling classes train no more than an hour and a half per week so they all performed brilliantly. The first round also included 2 gymnasts from the tumbling squad. Matilda, who missed out on qualification for the English Silver Tumbling Championships earlier in the year so was eager to prove herself in the Level 5 9-10 Female category, and she did just that by picking up the Gold medal against competitive clubs such as Newton Abbot and Blandford. Daniel followed with a Silver medal, a good achievement and boost in confidence following a serious knee injury earlier in the year.

The second round kicked off with Ollie who has only recently started tumbling. Despite this, he performed 3 strong runs and picked up a Silver medal, his second tumble scored higher than any other boys in his group. Connie and Alicia were next up in the round, both competing for the first time at level 4. Alicia has worked really hard since joining the tumbling squad and put out three solid runs finishing 8th in a very strong group. Connie picked up the Silver medal showing there is much more to come from her in the future.

Millie and Scarlet were up next following on from their brilliant achievements in this year’s British Schools Championships. It was time to see what they could achieve in the South West Club Cup. Scarlett performed 3 tidy tumbles and finished in 6th place. Millie showed great composure and became Regional Champion for the third time since joining the club.

And finally to conclude the competition in the last round, we had the youngest gymnast in the tumbling squad, Violet. At just 7 years of age, she competed Level 4 which includes multiple flics, an impressive achievement for such a young gymnast. With guidance from newly qualified coach Jess, she performed 3 of the best runs she’s ever done. This was rewarded with a Gold medal which was very well deserved.

This weekend wouldn’t be possible without the hard work of all the volunteers from the club. On the judging panel were Carol & Marie, we are hugely grateful for their tireless commitment to supporting both our own and the South West’s judging team. A special mention to the young leaders Olivia, Christian and Ella for supporting all the gymnasts throughout the day. To Rachel, Heidi and Hayley behind the scenes to organise such a great event. And finally to Georgia, Richard, Dave and Craig for committing to training these gymnasts up for competition, giving them their best shot of success, along with all the confidence to do so.
